SEO War

Well, we're feeling a bit like we expect the fighting Americans feel at the moment, overstretched and fighting on several fronts, against some tough opposition on the Business SEO search and as ever the boys are dug in waiting for reinforcements to turn up.

However ** SEO War** looks like a fairly easy term, and as we're floating around there @ #6 without having made any effort whatsoever for it, so may as well take that too on the way past.

We're not even going to bother with an assault page for this one, we'll just get one of the stable lads to pick it up on the way back from the SEO Mallorca Campaign.

The term is also slightly ironic because although we jest about all this in our silliness, it is sometimes a bit like a war between different webmasters for search positioning, and between local rival businesses.

..and especially so in a small place like Ibiza where everybody is all trying to do the same thing, and as soon as anyone sees someone else doing well, they all think that copying them is the way to succeed.

We think that generally, it's not. Standing out with something unique is a much better idea ;)

Update

While some of the boys are still off on a jolly on the seo in mallorca project and still seem to be detained in Google's indexing procedures some of us are still here working.

Linking to bad neighbourhoods..

If you dont already read the HOBO blog you should, its a good one. This week Shaun posted a tool to check who you are linking to ultimately, ie. who the sites you link to, link to.

we ran the tool over our main domain and were a little surpised to see a few possibly questionable results, from sites we link to, linking out to suspect things, but on closer inspection not so surprised.

The main offending link was actually from this blog, to a dodgy looking scraper site we had spotted, and posted about HERE which seemed to be fixing on keywords and tracking you around the internet almost when you used your name as the keyword.

At the time we had a tag page on there which was showing forum posts and all sorts, thats what we linked to.

Now thats gone and in it's place are syndicated Google ads for the anchor text shown in part below. Changed slightly so as not to tarnish our squeaky cleanliness any further, ..because apart from that (which has been removed now) as suspected we were spotless.

(was pretty confident we havent been penalised in anyway as this blog is still #4 for Microsofts free websites out of 92 million results anyway.. Google search ..and held up at mid-30's in the recent seocontest2008 amid strong competition)

..but check our out our unknowing participation in Google's less savoury side :)

whats interesting about this is these are adsense ads we may have been tarnished with, and the potentially tarnished domain is a Google blogspot blog.

Hence if Google approves of these sites enough to run adsense ads for them it would be a little hypocritical to reflect their own approved anchor text badly on us, while they make money from clicks, and if they did, they'd have to label their own domain - blogspot.com as a suspect neighbourhood.

I cant see either of those things happening but am glad we had the forsight to nofollow the link anyway and have removed it now.

SEO Balearics

We are expanding, clientbase and geographical area. Basically because we've run out of local target terms to take #1 position for and so have to widen our net again :)

Seriously though, a quick look over the search engines finds Ibiza very well represented, but Mallorca & the Balearic Isles not so for specialist SEO skillz..

So whilst the seo by design prize fast approaches, and Business SEO is camped up waiting for reinforcements, we thought we may as well send the boys off for some quick R & R in the form of a mini Balearic invasion whilst we wait..

Blogging for SEO - Fast Indexing

The SEO Forums are full of people asking how to get their sites and pages indexed quickly. by far the best way we have found is to include the page links into a "trusted" blog, ie, one that when you ping Google, they come running and index quickly.

There seems to be an optimum posting frequency to maintain to keep your blog in this category, at about 8-10 posts per week, but anything more than twice weekly seems to ensure you don't get demoted to just getting cached whenever they fancy it.

So say we had just taken over the optimisation of this site www.cardamomcatering.com ...following a server move, and have been making changes and want them to come and look at the new pages..

• wedding catering ibiza

• sitemap

...then, probably the best way we could do that would be to make a blog post about it and include the links. In usually only a day or two the pages will be in the index.

All the people in the forums are more likely asking how to get their first site into the index and hence get to the "trusted" scenario initially..

...Content, content, content and then link to it. :)

Blogging for SEO

Over at Blog HQ they've been working for a little while on effectively integrating a wordpress blog into an established main domain for instant ranking ability whenever you want to announce something..


We've been encouraging any (suitable) clients who arent already, to get blogging for a long while now for both general company awareness and visability, and the added SEO benefits a blog undoubtably brings to the party, and are hence pleased to showcase another new one from one of our strategic partners on the island who know a thing or two about parties - Ibiza Voice.


We obviously can't go into the exact plans to but suffice to say if you do very many "Ibiza " related searches you are going to be seeing some shifting dynamics of old established orders in the search landscape before the year is out... SOS indeed ;)

Ok so it finished yesterday, the French lads won it and well done to you all.

We had an interesting time and are pretty confident the system we were testing up until a week or so ago works very well, the big hammers at the end.. well, not so much against such stiff competition.. :0 ..nada in fact... Unless we still have a surge to come on further recaching.

It may just be that the strength above us is too much. We ended up at (unofficial- not registered) #35 on Google.com, #25 on Yahoo and #45 on MSN.

So all the links finally can come off now and get put to less frivolous use along with what we learned. ..next time maybe we'll hire an trainee for the purpose and enter properly.

or maybe an Ibiza team.. :) we'll see.

However - our own relentess march onwards continues and Blog HQ have just announced another victory - ** Superior Small Business ** has now fallen and ** Superior SEO ** is now back under control again everywhere but in the UK where TIP & Gabs are still involved.

The Spam-king's insurgence was quickly put down, the (moral) highground retaken, and it's like we said, 300 spammy domains against one quality page...

no chance :) ..this is Sparta!!!! I mean Ibiza!!
